Ruth Hawkins Byrd August 28, 1922 - December 12, 2010 Ruth Hawkins Byrd went to be with her Lord and Savior Sunday, December 12, 2010. Services will be at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, December 16, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Chapel with Rev. Curtis Holland officiating. Burial will follow at Prairie Hill Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m., Thursday, prior to the service. Ruth was born in Mart, Texas, on August 28, 1922, to Bert and Carey Hawkins. She married Norman Rhea Byrd in 1941, and they lived in Waco most of her life. She was a devout Christian, a member of North Waco Baptist Church, and will always be remembered for her love of family. She worked at Cinderella Fashions and retired from Steakley Brothers Chevrolet. Ruth was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; son, Ronald Rhea Byrd, and her sisters. Survivors include her son, Gary Byrd and wife, Theresa; daughter-in-law, Martha Voss Byrd; grandchildren, Ronald R Byrd II and wife, Donna, Kimberly Byrd, Gary Byrd, Jr., and wife, Sandy, Brandon Byrd, and Zachary Byrd; and great grandchildren, Brittney, Michelle, Bryan, Madeline and Miranda.
