Sam Hodges

June 22, 1927 — November 5, 2015

Samuel Glenn Hodges was born June 22, 1927 in Sandia, TX. Son of Alvis Glenn and Maggie Mae Redd Hodges. He graduated from Dickinson High School and attended the University of Houston. He served his country in the US Navy during World War II then worked for the McCullough Tool Co. in Houston. He met his sweetheart Elizabeth Ann Caldwell, married her on April 10, 1949 and began a 66 year love story. They moved to Waco and he went to work for his Father in Law Otto H Caldwell and was instrumental in growing Caldwell Electric Shop which he eventually owned and operated. He designed and built several inventions that he held patents for. Sam was ordained as a deacon at Highland Baptist Church and was still a deacon at First Baptist Church Waco. Sam recently received his 50 year pin as a Mason, was a Shriner, served on the transportation committee of the Waco Chamber, was a member of the Friends of Hillcrest Hospital and was an International Director of the Electrical Apparatus Service Association. Sam Hodges dearly loved his Lord, his family, his country and the American flag. He continually set excellent examples for all who knew or met him of being kind, doing the right thing, helping others and being a Christian, wonderful Husband, Father, Grandfather (Gan Gan), Great Grandfather. Sam was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Pat Hodges and Bob Hodges. He is survived by his wife Elizabeth Caldwell Hodges, daughter Glynis Ann Hodges Kersey, son in Law Matt Kersey, son Kim Ed Hodges, daughter in law Laura McLain Hodges, granddaughter Kaitlynn Hodges Horn and husband Ty Horn, grandsons Ryan Kersey and wife Ashlea Kersey, Eric Kersey and Brandon Hodges and wife Lacy Blake Hodges, great granddaughters Layla and Lily Hodges, brother Charles Hodges, sister in law Barbara Hodges and sister in law Donna Hodges of Sandia, Texas. Pall Bearers are Brandon Hodges, Ryan Kersey, Eric Kersey, Ty Horn, Frank Holubec, Dennis Odom and Ben Hodges. A Special Thank You to Jessica Hisgen, Arnita Vaughn, Anna Simmons, Melvin Vincent, and every employee of Royal Manor II and Providence Hospice for their compassionate and loving care. Donations and memorials in lieu of flowers to Providence Hospice 300 Highway 6, Waco, TX 76712 Family will be at Kim and Laura Hodges home at 400 Riverview Dr. Woodway, TX. Funeral service will be at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey at 1:00 pm. Monday, November the 9th with Dr. Randall Perry officiating.
