GRIFFIN, SAM Sam Griffin, age 82, of Waco died Tuesday, December 4, 2001 at a local hospital. Services will be held at 11:30AM Friday, December 7th at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Chapel, 6101 Bosque Blvd. with Dr. Raymond Bailey officiating. Burial will follow at Waco Memorial Park. Visitation with the family will be 6:00-8:00PM Thursday, December 6th at the funeral home. Mr. Griffin was born May 17, 1919 in Austin to Sam Bryant and Bertha Burke Griffin. He graduated from Austin High School Class of 1938 and attended University of Texas. He was drafted in 1942 and served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He was a Captain with the Texas Department of Public Safety after 33 years, retiring in 1981. He was a member of the Waco Gem and Mineral Club, Jack Sparks Central Texas Fly Rodders Club, and former member of the Waco Bass Club. Survivors include his wife, Frances Griffin of Waco, daughters, Helen Griffin Thomas and husband, Ben of Waco and Peggy G. Johnson and husband, Bob of Abilene, sons, Sam M. Griffin and wife, Becky of Waco and Donald W. Griffin and wife, Shelli of Temple, 10 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, brother, James D. Griffin and wife, Aggie of Longview. Pallbearers will be grandsons, Steve Brown, Allen Brown, David Brown, Mike Brown, Bob Jason Johnson, and Greg Griffin. Honorary pallbearers are Daniel Johnson, Stephen Brown, James Brown, Michael Mercer, Rubin Garcia, and Greg Griffin. Memorials may be made to Providence Hospice. WILKIRSON-HATCH-BAILEY
