Samuel Hardy Hill

Samuel Hardy Hill March 11, 1932 - February 12, 2009 Samuel "Sam" Hardy Hill of Waco passed away Thursday, February 12, 2009, after a brief battle with cancer. Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday, February 16, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Chapel with Minister Scott Tally and Ed James officiating. Burial will follow at Bellwood Cemetery in Temple, Texas. Visitation will be from 3-5 p.m. Sunday, February 15, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey. Sam was born March 11, 1932, in Hawn, Texas, to Paul and Willie Ada Hill. He graduated from Temple High School in 1950 and attended Temple Junior College and Tarleton State. During high school and college he played basketball and ran track. He and Iris Jane Doshier were married on August 24, 1956, in Temple. Sam retired as an auditor for the State of Texas Comptrollers Office after 27 years of service. He enjoyed family, sports and reading throughout his life. Sam was a longtime member of Crestview Church of Christ in Waco and served in the Wednesday Meals Ministry for many years. He was preceded in death by his parents and his infant brother. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Iris Jane Hill; two sons, Sam Hill, II and wife, Rhea; Alan Hill and wife, Susan; two grandsons, Hunter and Garrett Hill; his sisters, Myrtle Williams; Joyce Flowers and husband, Joe; and Jean Scott; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends.
