Sandra Joyce Barber

Sandra Joyce Hyman Barber, age 87, of Waco, Texas, passed away on Thursday, October 14, 2021. A graveside funeral will be held at Stanford Chapel Cemetery on Tuesday, October 19, at 1:30 pm, with Rev. Roy Marshall officiating. Sandra was born near Hewitt, Texas, to Lila B. Haley Hyman and William Henry Hyman on September 9, 1934. After graduating from Midway High School in 1953, she began work at Central Freight Line. While working at Central, she took evening classes at 4C Business College and Baylor University. She married Dwain Barber on February 11, 1956, at Hewitt Baptist Church. They celebrated their sixty-fifth anniversary on February 11, 2021. While Dwain served in the military, they lived in Monterrey, California; Huntsville, Alabama and Lawton, Oklahoma. Upon his discharge, they returned to Waco, where their children were born. Her children and grandchildren were Sandra’s greatest joy in life. Sandra was a member of Western Heights Baptist Church. She retired from McLennan Community College in 2000. Sandra is preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Susan Barber; sister, Shirley Leutwyler; and brother, David Hyman. She is survived by her husband, Dwain Barber; daughter, Terri Kurz, and husband, Mike of Round Rock; son, Stephen Barber of Atlanta, Georgia; grandchildren, Andrew Kurz and Cassandra Kurz; sister, Diane Watrous; and sister-in-law, Jean Hueske. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She will be greatly missed.
