Sandra L. Pickens January 8, 1938 - May 11, 2010 Sandra Lorraine Pickens of Elk, Texas, a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, passed away Tuesday evening at her home surrounded by her loving children, on May 11, 2010. Services will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, May 15, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Chapel with Pastor David Haines officiating. Burial will follow at Waco Memorial Park. Visitation will be 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Friday, May 14, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Garden Room. Sandra was born, January 8, 1938, in Elmo, Texas, to Jack and Pauline Brooks. Sandra was an inspiration to those who knew and loved her. Mom devoted her life to the Lord through music, volunteer work, teaching and her love for life. Throughout her life her children were her motivation. Mom's favorite past-times were reading her Bible and crocheting for her family and friends. She currently worked for the LaVega ISD School and previously worked for Axtell ISD. Sandra graduated from Baylor University, at the age of 60 with a degree in education, while owning and operating Sandy's Salvage in Elk, Texas. Sandra was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Charles Edward Pickens; her sister, Jackie Niswanger Seymour; and great-grandson, Caleb Todd. Sandra is survived by two daughters, Sherri Keller and husband, Kenny, of Elk; Sheila Thun and husband, Tom, of Elk; three sons, Charlie Pickens Jr. and wife, Rhetta, of Bosqueville; Johnnie Pickens and wife, Janet, of Elk; and Joey Pickens and wife, Karen, of McKinney; two brothers, Gary Brooks of Bryan and Steve Brooks of Stanton, CA.; eight grandchildren, Kinna Jones and husband, Justin; Emily Smith and husband, Cody; Chris Thun; Stephen Keller and Lindsey; Kevin Keller; Adam Gunn; Charlie Pickens III, Amanda Todd and husband, Trey. Also surviving are eight great grandchildren, Seth Jones, Dillon Jones, Caroline Jones, Garrett Brunson, Emily Jennings, Kyrstyn Keller, Coral Crudgington and Colby Todd. She leaves behind long-time friends, Carolyn Pool, Shirley Phillips, Dottie Williams, Billie Springfield, Maxine Keller, Ernie Jenkins, and her loving pet Yorkie, Skittles; and many loving nieces and nephews. The pallbearers are Chris Thun, Stephen Keller, Kevin Keller, Adam Gunn, Charlie Pickens III and Danny Pickens. The family request in lieu of flowers donations be made to charity of your choice.
