Coleman, Sandra Sandra Mayfield Coleman of Waco died Wednesday, March 16, 2005 at her residence. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, March 18, at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church with burial following at Oakwood Cemetery. The Rev. Chuck Treadwell and the Rev. Frank Mangum officiating. Sandra was born April 4, 1934 in Waco to Lucy May Mayfield and John D. Mayfield, Jr. She graduated from Waco High School in 1951. She graduated Cum Laude in 1955 from the University of Texas. She was President of Kappa Alpha Theta. She returned to Waco and worked as a substitute school teacher in the Waco Independent School District. She married F. Herman Coleman, Jr. on October 5, 1956. Sandra was involved in many civic organizations. She served as President of the Junior League of Waco and served as General Chairman of the Waco Cotton Palace Pageant. She was a partner of Coleman Enterprises and the Secretary/Treasurer of the Coleman Autoplex in Gatesville. Her love for her church was very evident. She was a life long member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. She served as President of the Episcopal Church Women, Chairman of St. Paul’s Day School Board, member of the Vestry, Volunteer for Meals on Wheels and member of the St. Paul’s & St. Margaret’s Guilds. She was very active in youth work and Christian Education. Her main focus was teaching Sunday school which she did for over 25 years, 18 of those years, she prepared the church youth for Confirmation. Her parents preceded her in death. Her husband of 47 years, F. Herman Coleman, Jr., former Chairman of the Board of the Texas National Bank of Waco now Compass Bank died May 28, 2004. She is survived by her son, William R. Bill Coleman and wife Larie of Waco; daughter Julie Ann Luedke of San Marcos; one brother, John D. Mayfield, III and wife Beth of Waco; one sister, Ann Park Mayfield Burton and husband, Alan of Houston; three grandchildren, Cody Goains and Christopher Luedke of San Marcos and Emily Coleman of Waco; nephews, Murray Burton and Joel Burton both of Houston and John Miller Mayfield of Austin; nieces, Laura Mayfield of Waco and Terry Burton Kahn of Houston; several cousins, great nephews and great nieces. She is also survived by employee and good friend of 42 years, Evelyn W. Bryant of Waco. The family is indebted to her caregivers Evelyn Dickerson and Angel Stoglin. Pallbearers will be nephews, Murray Burton, John Miller Mayfield and Joel Burton; cousins, Larry McLean, Scott McLean and Jim Raisanen. Honorary pallbearers will be the staff of the Coleman Autoplex. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorials be given to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church or Day School, Waco Montessori School, Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center’s Community Cancer Association or Hillcrest Hospice.
