Sandy D. Newkham

Sandy D. Newkham, 80, passed away October 3, 2024, at her home. 

Visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m., Monday, October 14, 2024, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Funeral Home, 6101 Bosque Blvd. Waco, TX 76710.

Sandy was born in Norton, VA, December 31, 1943, to Fred and Beatrice Duff. Her professional career started with her first job at Dairy Queen in Norton. Sandy then graduated from the University of Virginia and completed her Master’s Degree in Social Work from Tulane University in 1968. Jim and Sandy were married in 1969 and moved together to Japan. After returning stateside from Japan, she worked in a community mental health center in Aberdeen, WA. After working as a social worker for Heart of Texas Region MHMR and a trainer for Levi Strauss, she found her true passion with a business brokerage firm and set down roots in Waco, TX with her family. She opened her own brokerage, Brazos Business Services, and ran her business for over 25 years before retiring.

She loved to travel, cook, and take care of her plants and llamas, but mostly she enjoyed being surrounded by her family. She looked forward to hosting every holiday. She was very active in her children and grandchildren’s lives and took special pride in making every holiday and family gathering special.

She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and soon to be great-grandmother. She leaves behind husband, Jim Newkham; brother, Bob Duff; her sons, Mike Newkham and wife, Amanda, and Matt Newkham and wife, Jenny; she is also survived by her grandchildren, Kelsey and husband Talon, Jackson, Mason, and Grayson.
