Sharon Jane Mayhugh, age 75, formerly of Waco, was born to the late G.I. Lewis and Laferne Lewis August 22, 1946, in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She passed peacefully December 5, 2021, at Methodist Specialty Hospital in San Antonio, Texas, with her family at her side. For those who wish to honor her memory, visitation will be held at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Funeral Home from 4:00pm to 6:00pm, Thursday, December 9. A graveside service will be held at Waco Memorial Park, Friday, December 10, at 1:00pm. Sharon attended Richfield High School—class of 1964—before going to Texas Tech, where she became a member of the Alpha Delta Pi Sorority. She later graduated from Baylor with a degree in English and journalism. An only child, she grew up spending summers on Lake Waco with her parents and countless friends waterskiing, fishing, and floating on their houseboat, the “Lazy Daisy.” She married the love of her life, C.L. “Butch” Mayhugh, in 1967. The couple moved from Waco to El Paso and on to Northern California before returning to Texas in 1998, making the San Antonio area home. They lived their lives together in true partnership, with blind faith, trust in God and each other, following their dreams in work and play, while raising their daughter, Sharilyn. Sharon was a loving and loyal wife, mother, and Gigi with a passion for sewing, antiquing, beaches, and books. Her iron will, quick wit, beautiful smile, and steadfast friendship will be missed by so many, but never forgotten. Sharon is survived by her husband, daughter, and grandson, David.
