Sharon Glanton Rowton was born February 23, 1931, to Alvin Jordan Glanton and Eva Pauline Kelly and there began a lifetime of being teased. The main problem was that she was born in St. Louis, Missouri. While that in itself is not so bad, one has to understand that all of the family members were Southerners. In addition, her great grandfather fought in the War of Northern Aggression, i.e., the Civil War. With these facts coupled together, she was doomed to suffer being affectionately nicknamed a Yankee. Being that he was a Rebel during the war, her great grandfather only added more fuel to the fire. When she climbed onto his lap, as the story goes, she was told that he loved her except for one thing. She was born on the wrong side of the Mason Dixon line. Thus, her Yankee fate was sealed. Eventually, Sharon and her parents moved back to Texas and resided in Waco. She had her first date with her future husband in 1951 on Halloween. John Dee Rowton and she were wed July 5, 1952. They and Sharon's parents were married by the same minister, W.W. Melton. Things were looking good for them, but on the way to their honeymoon destination, they experienced the first bump in their road, a flat tire. Soon, however, all was well and they enjoyed 52 years together. Sharon and John were, both, only children. Two years later they welcomed Carol, who would ultimately be another only child into their world. Carol and her husband, Ed Steffer, have no children and currently reside in Arkansas. Until recently, Sharon remained in good health and enjoyed her life at home and shopping in areas near her home. She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Watauga, Texas. On December 21st of this year, Sharon realized that she had a bladder infection for which an antibiotic was prescribed. On December 24th she began feeling quite bad and was ultimately taken that afternoon to an emergency room for treatment. Very suddenly, she passed out, had a small seizure, and then suffered a massive heart attack. She was intubated and taken to the Cardiac Cath Lab for a procedure. The hospital staff had difficulty finding a good pulse and began CPR. Carol was escorted into the lab, whereupon, she asked that life saving measures be stopped. Sharon passed away on the same night Christ was born, December 24, 2018. The family invites you to leave a message or memory in our “Tribute Wall” at www.WHBfamily.com.
