Sharon Virginia Bennett April 7, 1968 - August 27, 2014 Sharon Virginia Cron Bennett of Waco suddenly passed away Wednesday, August 27, 2014, as a result of a brain tumor. Services will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, August 30, at First Baptist Church, Woodway, with the Rev. Chris Sammons officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Sharon was born April 7, 1968, in Warner Robins, Georgia, to Doug and Karen Cron. She graduated from McAllen High School in 1986 and Baylor University in 1990. Sharon played the piccolo in the Baylor University Golden Wave Band and was a member of Tau Beta Sigma. After graduation, she taught at Beary Best Academy. Her passion for preschool ministry began to flourish when she was called as Assistant Director of the Preschool Development Center at First Baptist Church, Waco. Soon thereafter, she became the director of that ministry. She later served as director of the Parents' Day Out Preschool. While at FBC Waco, she also became a leader in the Texas Baptist Church Weekday Education Association. Sharon obtained her alternative teacher certification from McLennan Community College in 2010. She continued her ministry as a kindergarten teacher at Hewitt Elementary, where she served until the time of her passing. Whether through church or school, Sharon devoted her life to preschool and children's ministry. She touched the lives of countless children and their families. Sharon also devoted her life to missions and made numerous trips to Fundacion Salvacion, an orphanage in Guatemala, with mission teams from FBC Waco. She served in recent years with the Youth Ministry at FBC Woodway, leading Vacation Bible Schools in La Grulla, Texas, near her hometown of McAllen. She was an active member of First Baptist Church of Woodway. Sharon was preceded in death by her brother, Andy Cron. She is survived by her parents, Doug and Karen Cron of Granbury, Texas; her husband, Alan Bennett of Waco; her children, Joseph, William, Abby and Stephen; her sisters, Janis Cron of North Richland Hills, Texas, and Becky Jones and Wendy Delzell, both of Springfield, Missouri; her grandmother Doris Walter of Granbury; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Pallbearers are Roy Britton, Felipe Garcia, Tommy Ross, Cliff Smith, Larry Stotler and Thomas West.
