Shelton E. Overby, Jr.

OVERBY, JR., SHELTON Shelton E. Overby, Jr. age 82, of Waco died Tuesday, September 4, 2001at a local nursing home. A memorial service will be held at 11:30AM Thursday, September 6th at First Baptist Church Chapel with Rev. Morris Wall and Craig Fox officiating. Private family burial will be at Waco Memorial Park. Visitation with the family will be 5:00-7:00PM Wednesday, September 5th at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey, 6101 Bosque Blvd. Mr. Overby was born September 12, 1918 in Waco, TX where he lived most of this life. He graduated from Waco High School in 1936 and received his business degree from Baylor University in 1940. He married Florene Rushing on November 1, 1941. Shelton served with the Army Air Corps in the China-Burma-India Theater during WWII. He returned to Waco and entered the wholesale business, S.E. Overby & Son, with his father. Shelton was a deacon in the First Baptist Church, a board member of the Boy’s Club of America and participated in many local civic activities. Survivors include: His wife of almost 60 years: Florene Overby of Waco Daughters: Shelly Morrison and husband, Richard of Groesbeck Kathy Overby of Groesbeck Jane Fox and husband, Craig of Rockwall Grandchildren: Kent Morrison, Christopher Diaz, Jessica Morrison and Emily Fox Great granddaughter: Alex Brooks Sister: Louise Gentry of San Antonio Memorials may be made to Parkinson’s Support Group, c/o W.B. and Mary Gerecke, 2501 Wooded Acres, Waco, TX 76710.
