Shirley Colleen Snider

September 2, 1928 — May 14, 2023

Shirley Colleen Snider, 94, of Waco, passed away Sunday, May 14, 2023 at her home.


Visitation will be 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Friday, June 16, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Funeral Home followed by a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 17 at St. Mary Church of the Assumption, 1401 Washington Ave., in Waco with The Rev. Joseph F. Geleney officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery.


Colleen was born Sept 2,1928 in Pocatello, ID to Cecil Francis L Tucker and Margaret Gilroy Tucker. Colleen's father worked for the Singer Sewing Machine Co and the family traveled throughout the Midwest. Colleen attended schools in Greeley, CO and Hastings, NE before finally settling in Waco in 1938. She graduated from Waco High School and then attended Baylor University. On December 27, 1948, Colleen married James Bailey Snider Jr. and they were married for 59 years.


Creating a comfortable and tidy home for her family was central to Colleen's life and she built her home to be a welcoming place for her deeply loved friends and family. The holidays were especially magical, with Jim and Colleen both putting in the effort to make them special and exciting for their children and grandchildren. Her grandchildren gave her particular joy in life, with each grandchild being a star in her eyes.


Colleen was a faithful member of St. Louis Catholic Church and a contributing member of the Catholic Study Club of Waco and the St Louis Bible Study group. Active in the community, Colleen was a member of the Historic Waco Foundation, Junior Shakespeare Study Club, and the Henry Downs Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Colleen enjoyed her time giving tours of the Historical Homes as a docent for the Historic Waco Foundation.


She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, John Francis Tucker, Charles William Tucker, David James Tucker and Edward Tucker; and her husband, James Snider.


Colleen is survived by her daughters, Elizabeth Waldon and Elaine Stuard and husband, Terry; son, Neill Snider and wife, Meredith; grandchildren, Lisa Warfield and husband, William, Larry Waldon and wife, Christine, Alyssa Booher and husband, Dallas, Ryan Stuard, Timothy Stuard, Ross Snider, Jane Snider, Jack Snider, Anne Snider, Emma Snider and Lucy Snider; great-grandchildren, Hazel Wedgeworth, Rowen Booher and Dominic Snider; her brother, Donald Tucker; nieces, Donna Tucker and Susan Tucker; and nephew, Daniel Tucker.


Pallbearers will be Terry Stuard, Ryan Stuard, Larry Waldon, Timothy Stuard, Ross Snider and Jack Snider.


A special thanks to Visiting Angels, Lucy's Loving Home Care, Bluebonnet Hospice and to the Waco Fire Department and EMTs.


In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Salvation Army, St. Louis Catholic Church, Bishop Louis Reicher High School or to a charity of your choice.
