Shirley Lynn Hoppenstein passed away Wednesday, April 5, 2017, in Dallas, Texas, surrounded by loved ones. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, April 9, at Agudath Jacob Cemetery. Shirley was born on July 15, 1934, in Waco, Texas, to Sydney and Lena Aronson Lynn. She grew up in Rosebud, Texas, and moved to Waco during her high school years. She graduated from Waco High and attended the University of Texas at Austin, where she was an active member of the sorority Delta Phi Epsilon. After university, she married the love of her life, Archie Hoppenstein, and had three adoring daughters. Shirley and Archie were married for 48 years until Archie's death on February 14, 2004. Shirley and Archie were passionate about public service and were fiercely committed to helping others. Shirley was a member of Hadassah, a campfire leader, and oversaw operations of Agudath Jacob's kosher kitchen for many years. Together, she and Archie were active members of the National Democratic Party and were pillars of the Waco community. Shirley cared for all living things. She loved gardening in her greenhouse and taking care of her beloved cats and dogs. She offered unconditional love to her husband, her daughters, and everyone who was lucky enough to know her. Her beauty, charm, and witty sense of humor turned the heads and captured the hearts of everyone she met. She is survived by her children, Sherri and Mickey Radoff, Debra and Steve Bryant, Marla and Maurice Oddes; her grandchildren, Jennifer, Robert, and Daniel Radoff, Sivan, Zohar and Amit Oddes, and Dustin and Wendy Bryant; and her great-grandchildren, Robert and Kenneth Bryant. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in honor of Shirley to Congregation Agudath Jacob. The family invites you to leave a message or memory on our “Tribute Wall” at www.WHBfamily.com.
