Stella Barber Locke June 24, 1927 - September 15, 2014 Stella 'Candy' Blanche Barber Locke passed away peacefully in her home September 15, 2014, surrounded by her loving family. Services will be 1:00 p.m., Saturday, September 20, at Lake Shore Baptist Church with the Reverend Curtis Holland officiating. Visitation will be 5:00-7:00 p.m., Friday, September 19, at Wilkirson-Hatch Bailey Garden Room. Candy was born June 24, 1927, in Marietta, Georgia, to Durant and Stella Barber. In 1947, she was married to the love of her life, Dr. Corbet Clarke Locke, Jr., in New Orleans, Louisiana. Shortly thereafter they made their home in Waco, Texas. Candy was described by one of her granddaughters as beautiful, vivacious and sassy. She smiled with her eyes and brought happiness and joy to her friends and family. Her friends remember her as full of pep, a beautiful lady with her southern drawl, very talented musically and artistically and always fun-loving and a very dear friend. Her three children fondly describe her as a loving, devoted mother who always put family first. Candy was a faithful and devout Christian. She gave back to the community through volunteer efforts in many different organizations. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dr. Corbet Clarke Locke, Jr.; and her sister, Sarah Chalin. She is survived by her daughters, Lynnan Locke Kendrick and husband, Joe, of Waco and Jennifer Locke Braasch and husband, Steve, of Austin; son, Dr. Corbet Clarke Locke, III and wife, LeaAnn, of Waco; grandchildren, Steven Mark Braasch, II and wife, Marisa, Dr. Locke Kendrick and wife, Sarah, Heather Locke Braasch and fianc, Patrick Stahle Arnold, Elizabeth Joan Locke and Amy Caroline Locke and fianc, Christopher Layne Marchbanks; step-grandchildren, William Chesley Kendrick and wife, Paige, and Joseph Wilson Kendrick and wife, Kim; great granddaughter, Madeline Braasch; step-great grandchildren, Emma Jane and Hoagy Kendrick; and numerous nieces and nephews. Honorary pallbearers are Margaret Brown, Geneva Gamble, Joan Gervig, Sherry Hill, Margaret Hunter and Jane Scruggs. The family thanks Providence Hospice, Diana Macedo, Marcela Jordan and Shannon Perez for their loving and gentle care. Memorials may be made to Providence Hospice and CASA.
