Talmadge Buell Dick Mcdannel

June 22, 1921 — October 10, 2007

Talmadge Buell Dick McDannel June 22, 1921 – October 10, 2007 Talmadge Buell Dick McDannel, 86, of Waco passed away Wednesday, October 10, 2007. Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 13, at Park Lake Drive Baptist Church with Dr. Paul Sadler officiating. Burial will follow at Bosqueville Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday, October 12, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Garden Room. Dick was born June 22, 1921 and lived in the Central Texas area for most of his life. He was the son of Pearl and Cliff McDannel. He married Jane Crocker in 1944. They were married for over 55 years and had three children. Throughout his life Dick devoted himself to what was most important. He was a faithful and loving son, husband, father, and grandfather. He lived a life that was an example of hard, honest work, of commitment to his marriage and family, and of strong Christian values. “His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!” Matthew 25:21 He was a fireman for the City of Waco for more than forty years, retiring in 1973. He was unable to finish high school, but through persistence and hard work he retired at the rank of Assistant Fire Chief. On his days off from the fire station, he was an “entrepreneur.” He owned a heating and air conditioning business and he built homes in the China Spring area. For more than fifty years, he was a faithful servant member of Park Lake Drive Baptist Church where he was ordained as a deacon in 1956. He served on many committees, but he was best known for the service he did in helping to maintain the church buildings and grounds. He was a “behind the scenes” kind of person. He made a lasting difference in many lives because he preferred to offer a “hand up” instead of a “hand out.” He was preceded in death by his parents and by his wife. He is survived by many caring family members and friends. His children are John Wayne McDannel and wife, Jackie of Dallas; Jimye Ruth Sadler and husband, Paul of Plainview; and Jo Betsy Tyler and husband, Mike of Waco. Dick had seven grandchildren who loved their Papaw: Jennifer McDannel of Dallas; Jeremy McDannel and wife, Tamara, of Dallas; Amy Sadler of Irving, Matt Sadler and wife, Kalley of Amarillo, Paige, Zack, and Blake Tyler of Waco. He had one great grandson, Grayson Sadler. Other survivors include a brother, Albert McDannel, and his wife, Linda, of Lorena, and niece, Paula Hahn of Waco. Pallbearers are Mike Tyler, Zack Tyler, Blake Tyler, Matt Sadler, Jeremy McDannel, Doug Lain, Charlie Williams, and John Cowan. Honorary Pallbearers are Park Lake Drive Baptist Church Deacons and members of the Brotherhood Sunday School Class. Memorial donations may be made to the Park Lake Drive Baptist Church Organ Fund.
