Talmadge "T.D." Douglas Steinke August 14, 1925 - January 17, 2009 Talmadge "T.D." Douglas Steinke of Waco went to be with his Lord on Saturday, January 17, 2009 at Texan Nursing & Rehab Center. Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 21 at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Chapel with the Rev. James Price officiating. Burial will follow at Mart Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.Tuesday, January 20 at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey. Talmadge was born August 14, 1925 in Mart, Texas to M.B. "Max" and Ana Ida Steinke. He was a signalman in the U.S. Navy and was honorably discharged in 1946. He married Ruth Murphree on March 5, 1955 and together raised two daughters. He loved and was devoted to his wife, daughters and grandchildren as were they to him. He retired in 1991 as District Director with the United Rubber Workers. His highest professional honor came in 2006 when he was formally inducted into The Texas Labor Hall of Fame in Austin after 60 years of dedicated service. T.D. enjoyed and actively served on the boards of various educational, technical and political organizations in the area. Talmadge was a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church in Waco. He was preceded in death by his parents, M.B. "Max" and Ana Ida Steinke; brothers, Cleo and Weldon "Pete" Steinke; sisters, Estella Steinke and Jewell Davis. He is survived by his wife, Ruth Steinke of Waco; daughters, Darlene Steinke of Irving and Mary Allen of China Spring; grandchildren, Samuel Allen and Sarah sisters, Elda Lutter of Minnesota and Ruby Ertel of New York nieces, nephews and many friends.
