THELMA FLOOD Thelma Loraine Reece Flood, age 90, of Waco, formerly of Fort Worth passed away Wednesday, March 19, 2003, at a local hospital. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11am Monday, March 24 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church of the Assumption, 1401 Washington Ave. with the Rev. Angelo Bertini officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Rosary will be recited at 5pm Sunday, March 23 at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Chapel, 6101 Bosque Blvd. Visitation with the family will be from 2-5pm Sunday at the funeral home. Mrs. Flood was born November 24, 1913, in Waco to Tom and Vida Reece. She graduated from Waco High School in 1931. Thelma married J. H. “Pie” Flood on September 17, 1933, and they enjoyed 65 wonderful years together. In 1956 they moved to Fort Worth. She returned to Waco after his death in 1998. Her many volunteer efforts exemplified her Christian faith and her complete devotion to family. She volunteered as a Catholic Charities case worker, and assisted Carmelite Nuns of Fort Worth. She was a member of Catholic Women's Study Group of Waco, and National Council of Catholic Women. During her years in Fort Worth, she worked at the TCU Library for five years, Kimble Art Museum for ten years, and volunteered at St. Joseph’s Hospital for five years. She was active in St. Bartholomew’s Catholic Church in Fort Worth and spent many hours caring for others during illness or responding to all calls for help. She was preceded in death by her husband, J. H. Flood, a grandson, Joseph H. Flood, III, and two brothers, Walter Reece and Samuel Reece. She is survived by a family that brought her constant pride and pleasure. They include children, Joe Flood and wife, Penny of Waco; Tom Flood and wife, Lillian of Lago Vista; Mary Ellen Foley and husband, Dave of Shreveport. Her grandchildren brightened each day for her as she did for them, and they include Lisa Rue and fiancé, Scott Johnson of Baytown, Linda Johnson and husband, Ted of Denton, Gina Sundet and husband, Bjorn of Houston, Kathleen Green and husband, David of Houston, Julie Avila and husband, Andy of Dallas, Jennifer Harvey and husband, Greg of Mansfield, Michael Flood and wife, Erin of Round Rock, Kellie Flood of St. Louis, Missouri, Jack Flood of Dallas, Elizabeth Flood of Atlanta, Georgia, Reece Flood and wife, Erin of College Station, Matt Foley and wife, Erin of Houston. A third generation benefited from this loving great grandmother and are Carolyn, April, Carl, and Kristi Hager; Vicki Johnson; Christopher Rue; Merideth Harvey; Alexandria Avila; William Green; Hunter and Samantha Flood; Vicki Johnson; and Shannon Foley. She is also survived by sister-in-law, Rosalie Flood of Luling, Texas, nieces, Loraine Leonard and Patsy Robb, nephews, Walter Reece Jr. and Sam Reece. The family wishes to express special appreciation for the loving care and assistance extended to Thelma by Dr. Crawford Allison, Mrs. Shirley Malone, Mrs. Ruthie Sanders, Mr. and Mrs. Juan Bustillos. Pallbearers will be Michael Flood, Jack Flood, Reece Flood, Matthew Foley, Christopher Rue, and Carl Hager.
