Thomas Cross Hill June 11, 1930 - October 23, 2013 Thomas Cross Hill of Waco passed away Wednesday, October 23, 2013. A memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, October 26, at the Highland Baptist Church Chapel. Viewing and visitation will be 5:00 7:00 p.m., Friday, October 25, at Wilkirson Hatch Bailey Garden Room. Tom was born in Aberdeen, Washington, on June 11, 1930, to Frank and Sarah Hill. He graduated from Aberdeen High School in 1948 and from Whitman College with a degree in chemistry in 1954, after serving for 2 years in the Marine Corps. Tom married the love of his life Janice Stiller in 1953. He graduated from the University of Colorado with a degree in chemical engineering in 1956. He worked for Union Carbide in Charleston, West Virginia, upon graduation from college until 1965, when he was transferred to the Sistersville, West Virginia, plant and the family moved to St. Marys, West Virginia. He retired in 1986 and moved to Waco, Texas, in 2002, where he made his home until his death on October 23, 2013. He was a talented actor, and worked in community and church venues. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club in, Scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 28 and a lifelong Republican, serving on the Executive Committee in Pleasants County. He served in various capacities at Calvary Baptist Church in St. Marys from its formation until November 2001, and was a member of Riverview Baptist Church before the family relocated to Texas. He was a volunteer with Pleasants County Senior Nutrition, Belmont Water Dept., and served as a member of the Belmont Sewer Board. In Waco, he was an active member of Highland Baptist Church, serving as a Deacon and was always willing to assist local widows in whatever manner needed. He volunteered at Providence Emergency Room until his death. While at Providence he oversaw the Pre-Med Volunteer Program for Baylor students for several years and received the Five Star Vision Award in 2007 for his dedicated service. He was active in local politics wherever he went and was outspoken in his conservative beliefs his entire life. One of Tom's greatest pleasures was spending time with his four sons and only daughter. He also enjoyed attending athletic events and performances of his grandchildren and was also a professional hobbyist. He could do or build most anything with his hands: from gardening to woodworking to teaching his children how to make rockets, or even carving many swords for his grandkids. He loved his family and will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, Christian and jokester extraordinaire. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Janice; children, Steve and Jane Hill of Asheville, North Carolina, Dan and Chris Hill of Salem, Oregon, David and Pam Hill of Fountain Inn, South Carolina, Tom Jr. & Kristin Hill of Waco, and Nick & Rebecca Hill Herron of Waco; grandchildren, Aaron, Adam, Sharlyne, Sarah, Jeremy, Ben, Calvin, Cora, Chase, Taylor, Hannah & Daniel; and great grandchildren, Casey, Cody, Kassidy, Isaac, Sabina and baby, Asher.
