THOMAS I. MERRITT, 80, of Waco, died Sunday in a local nursing home. Services will be at 11:30 AM Tuesday, March 27, 2001, at Waco Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel, Rev. David Shuttlesworth officiating. Visitation will be 5-7 PM Monday at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Funeral Home, 6101 Bosque Blvd. Mr. Merritt was born December 12, 1920 in Mooreville to Beulah and Ira Merritt. He married Juanita Head on May 18, 1940. He served in the US Navy during World War II. He worked at M.K.& T. ”Katy” Railroad for 38 years before retiring in 1980. Mr. Merritt was a member of Waco Masonic Lodge #92 and Park Lake Drive Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son Tommy Merritt, Jr. and a granddaughter Patty Lynn Monahan. Survivors include his wife Juanita Merritt of Waco; his son Billy Merritt, Sr. and his wife Dorothy of Robinson; his sister Barbara Spradlin and her husband Ray of Robinson; his brother Earl Merritt of Kerrville; three grandsons: Billy Merritt, Jr., Steven Merritt and Thomas Justin Merritt; one granddaughter Melissa Merritt and three great grandchildren: Zachary, Madison and Mason.
