THOMAS MILLS BOWMAN, SR. 7, of Lorena, died Friday, April 13, 2001, at his home. Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM Monday, April 16, 2001 at First Baptist Church of Lorena, the Rev. Mike Patterson, the Rev. Ken Young, and the Rev. Carroll Hambrick officiating. Burial will follow in Lorena Cemetery. Visitation will be 6-8 Sunday at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Funeral Home, 6101 Bosque Blvd. Mr. Bowman was born December 29, 1913 in Lorena and graduated from Lorena High School. He attended 4-C Business College, Texas Tech and Baylor University. He and Mildred Virginia Evans married June 16, 1935. Mr. Bowman worked for Montgomery Ward & Co. 15 years as a store and district manager. He worked for William Cameron Co 16 years as a division manager, and originated, owned and operated The Village Lamp Lighter in Lorena until retiring in 1998. He served on the Lorena School Board and the Lorena City Council as Alderman and Mayor. Mr. Bowman was a member of the First Baptist Church of Lorena and served as a Deacon and Sunday School Superintendent. He loved his family and his hometown of Lorena and as a historian authored a booklet of personal memories. He was preceded in death by his parents Tom M. and Lula Mae Ponder Bowman, three sisters: Mrs. J. E. Georgia Brown, Mrs. B. M. Lucille De Graffenried-Goode, and Mrs. R. E. Margaret Cox, III. Survivors include his wife Virginia Bowman of Lorena, three sons: Thomas Mills Bowman, Jr. or Houston, Jon Charles Bowman and his wife Cindy of Fort Worth, and Bruce Ryan Bowman and his wife Beverly of Lorena; 9 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Brad Bowman, Brad Taylor, Adam Bowman, Jon Bowman, Jr. and Marc Bowman. Honorary pallbearers will be Andy Ramsey, Stanley Lundin and Emory Isham.
