Tillman Lupton "Bill" Caldwell January 2. 1923 December 2, 2012 Tillman Lupton "Bill" Caldwell passed away in Dallas on Sunday, December 2, 2012. Graveside services will be held at 1:00 on Friday, December 7, at Oakwood Cemetery in Waco with Rev. Leslie King officiating. Bill was born in Waco, Texas, on January 2, 1923, the son of Charles Turner Caldwell and Millicent Lupton Caldwell. He graduated from Waco High School and attended Austin College. Bill joined the U S Army Air Corps where he became a pilot and trained many fighter pilots for the war in Europe. After the war, he maintained his interest in flying and was licensed to fly multiple engine and jet aircraft. Bill's chosen profession was that of fine artist. As a noted graphic designer, his creations were featured throughout the media for several decades, primarily in Dallas and elsewhere in Texas. Bill excelled in many avocations, including sailing. He was a charter member of the White Rock Boat Club, which was located near his residence in Dallas. Sports cars were also a passionate interest. His beloved 1953 Porsche 356 was entered in numerous Gymkhanas in the Dallas area for many years, during which time he developed friendships with legendary automobile racers, including Carrol Shelby. Bill was also keenly interested in model aircraft, his lifelong hobby. At his death, he held flying model records with the national model aircraft association. In addition, Bill was involved in model railroading and over the years gained a reputation for excellence and innovation in this field. Bill was predeceased by his brother, Charles Caldwell. He is survived by his sister, Millicent Caldwell Jones and niece, Millicent Jones, both of Arlington; and his nephew, Ed Jones, of New York City.
