Tommy Lane Lowry October 4, 1935 - September 16, 2011 Tommy Lane Lowry, 75, of Waco passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family Friday, September 16, 2011. Private graveside services will be held with the Rev. Jerry Kirkpatrick and Rev. Elizabeth Grasham-Reeves officiating. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at Lakewood Christian Church at a later date. Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 p.m., Monday, September 19, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Garden Room. Tommy was born October 4, 1935, in Waco, to Johnny and Robbie Lowry, their only child. He graduated from LaVega High School and attended Victoria Junior College. He served proudly in the United States Marine Corps. On December 19, 1958, he married his sweetheart, Sue Ducas. Together they set out to get Sue through Baylor University. Tommy worked full time with the Waco Fire Department as an engineer/fire fighter and two part time jobs to accomplish their goal. Tommy was a Mason and a member of the Waco Founder Lions Club. He was President of the Local #478 Fire Fighters Union, as well as Vice President of the Texas State Fire Fighters Association. After 34 years of service to the WFD, he retired and was elected Vice President Emeritus of the Texas State Fire Fighters Association. He was a devoted husband and father, and his children were all treasures to him. Tommy was an avid sports fan and loved to socialize on the golf course and at the card table with his loyal buddies. When Sue and Tommy traveled, their favorite spot was New Orleans. Tommy was an active member of Lakewood Christian Church, where he was serving as a deacon. He was preceded in death by his parents; and grandmother, Adelia Lane. He is survived by his wife of more than 52 years, Sue Ducas Lowry; son, Michael Lane Lowry and wife, Darla; daughter, Jennifer Lowry Roach and husband, Phil; granddaughters, April, Ashley and Amber Lowry, and Ashton, Rachel and Peyton Roach; and one great granddaughter, Chloe Lane Sudbury; and father-in-law, Lawrence A. Ducas. He will be greatly missed by his loving dog, Lucky. Honorary pallbearers are the City of Waco Fire Department, Texas State Fire Fighters Association, Waco Founder Lions Club, and all his loyal buddies. The family wishes to thank Dr. Amy Talbert and her staff, Dr. Ofobuike Okani and his staff, Dr. Patel and the Oncology/ER staff at Hillcrest Medical Center, Scott & White Pulmonary Clinic, and a very special thanks to Scott & White Hospice at Hillcrest.
