Treasure Thomas Malone August 12, 1917 August 30, 2015 Treasure Thomas Malone, a long-time resident of Waco, Texas, passed away on Sunday, August 30, 2015. She was 98 years old. Her graveside service will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, September 4, at Waco Memorial Park, South I-35 in Waco with Rev. Tim Jarrell officiating. The arrangements are through Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Funeral Home, Waco. Born in Maryneal, Texas, on August 12, 1917, to Ruth Smalley and Francis Marion Thomas, she was the oldest of five girls. She graduated from Waco High School in May 1936, attended Baylor University, graduating with a BA in English and Education in June 1940. In June of 1972, she earned her Master's degree with certification as Supervisor in Education. She served two years as Chairman of the Administrative Board of Austin Avenue United Methodist Church. In 1978 and 1979 she served as the First Woman Lay Leader and in 1985 and 1986 she was First Woman Chairman. She served as Secretary for the Board of Higher Education and Campus Ministry, Central Texas Annual Conference, United Methodist Church 1979-1980. She was awarded a plaque for outstanding Den Mother, Boy Scouts of America as well as a Proclamation from the Mayor of Waco in recognition of her gift to the Freedom Foundation from the American Association of University Women in her name on August 3, 1971. A scholarship named in her honor was made by a donor and given to AAUW in June 1979. She earned the Woman of Distinction award in 1999. Treasure has done graduate study at Duke University and the University of Texas. Treasure loved to travel and after retiring she visited Ireland, Italy, Hawaii, Sweden and England. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and three sisters. Always a loving and supportive mother for her family, she is survived by her daughter, Kathy Whitehill of Ft. Worth, Texas; sons, John Malone and wife, Kimberly, and their daughter, Regan, of Lake Oswego, Oregon, and Mark Malone and wife, Tracy, and their children, Meredith Malone, Jack Malone and Matthew Malone of Austin; and Treasure's sister, Claudine Johnston. She lived a long, full and happy life. She will be greatly missed. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Waco Methodist Home, the Austin Avenue United Methodist Church or Austin Sheltie Rescue.
