Trudy Cayo

Trudy (nee) Schnaufer Cayo passed away peacefully in Waco, Texas, on March 26, 2017. Her memorial service will be 11:00 a.m., March 31, in the Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Funeral Home Garden Room. She came into this world with her cherished twin sister, Irma, on August 14, 1930 in Chicago, Illinois. She enrolled in Central State Teachers College in Stevens Point, Wisconsin, to earn a teaching degree. While on campus, a handsome young man washing dishes at an area diner caught her eye. She promptly told her girlfriend he was meant for her. And so he was, for a lifetime. Their union was formalized on December 27, 1954, in Chicago. At the time of her passing, she was married to Dean Cayo for 62 years. Dean and Trudy moved to Milwaukee in 1960, where they raised their four children. She enjoyed a lengthy teaching career, beginning at a schoolhouse in Algoma, Wisconsin, followed by over 30 years in the Milwaukee Public School System, until her retirement in 1994. She loved to learn as well as teach and Trudy sought out opportunities to learn more about subjects that interested her. She was an avid reader, graceful swimmer and ice-skater, watercolor painter and musician, and played many stringed instruments and piano by ear. In retirement, Dean and Trudy were active maintaining two homes: the family lake house in Birchwood, Wisconsin, and the Florida retreat in Navarre, Florida. In 2015 they moved to Waco to be close to their daughter, Beth, and her family. She was predeceased by her parents, Irma and Adolf; and brother, George. Trudy is survived by her loving husband, Dean; four children, Gerry Cayo and Lynette of Lake Mills, Wisconsin; Kitty Cayo and John of Punta Gorda, Florida; Beth Raymond and Mike of Waco; and Chris Cayo and Patty of Eau Claire, Wisconsin; and six grandchildren, Scott, Carol and Dylan Cayo, Carolyn and Drew Raymond, and Durk Way; her twin sister, Irma Nagele and Albert of Wilmette, Illinois, and sister, Claire Lindem of Rockford, Illinois. She will be missed greatly by all, but especially by her devoted husband, children and grandchildren for whom she bestowed a lifetime of wonderful memories. The family gives special thanks to Interim Home Care, her Physical Therapy team, Hospice, and Arbor House of Waco staff and friends for their loving care of Trudy.
