Vanita Denton, longtime Waco resident, passed away Saturday, December 15, 2007 in Fort Worth. Graveside services will be at 11:00 am Wednesday, December 19 at Waco Memorial Park. Vanita was born May 23, 1908 to Genoa and E. O. Berry in McLennan County, Texas. She was a member of the Senate Ladies Club of Austin, Texas, member of Hamilton House and Belle Fleur Garden Club of Waco. Vanita was also a charter member of Ridgewood Country Club. She loved gardening, landscaping, decorating, and was an artist. She attended business school in Dallas and studied Art under the direction of Frederick Mieson while attending Baylor University. Vanita was a longtime member of Austin Avenue United Methodist Church where she was a charter member of the Hartsfield Sunday School Class. Although she never had children, she considered her sister’s children as her own. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. Vanita was preceded in death by husbands, Senator Kyle Vick and A. N. Denton; sisters, Iona Pickett of Waco and Beatrice Peeler of Arizona; and nephew Richard A. McKelvey of Fort Worth. She is survived by niece, Betty Jo Bauer of Fort Worth; great nieces, Carol Taylor of Aledo and Tammy Bauer of Fort Worth; and many great great nieces, nephews and friends.
