WISE, VELMA MAE Mrs. Velma Mae Wise, age 95, of Waco passed away Wednesday, January 21, 2004 in Dallas. Graveside services will be held at 1pm Friday, January 23 at Oakwood Cemetery with the Rev. Ernie Christie of Lake Shore Church of Christ officiating. Velma was born January 20, 1909 in Burden, Kansas to Lawrence Lawson Rodman and Melvetta Mae Head Rodman. She was raised and educated in Burden. She graduated from Pittsburgh State Teachers College in Pittsburgh, Kansas. While attending college in Pittsburgh, she met and later married the love of her life, Herbert Earl Wise. They were married December 20, 1930. Prior to moving to Waco she taught school in the Burden area and in the early years in Waco ISD. She was very active in PTA and served as president at North Waco Elementary, as well as holding many other offices in her daughters’ schools. She assisted her husband as he became assistant athletic director for Waco ISD athletics. She will always be remembered as being the kind, helpful lady selling tickets all over Waco ISD and for many functions at the HOT Coliseum. The staff, coaches, and students loved her. For anyone attending Waco High School in the 1960’s, 1970’s and early 1980’s; she was that sweet, soft spoken lady over study hall. She was a member of Lake Shore Church of Christ. After retiring from Waco ISD, she spent her time between Waco and Dallas. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister and brother-in-law. She is survived by her daughters, Linda Wise of Dallas and Jacqueline Orsag and husband, James of Waco, her two precious grandsons, James H. Orsag of Waco and Jerry W.
