A Life Well Lived and Loved...
"Who can find a virtuous woman? For her worth is far above rubies..." Proverbs 31:10
Vennie Mae Johnson (McCrimmon) was born to the parentage of Thomas Marshall “Jack” McCrimmon and Delphia Ann McCrimmon (Mitchell) on March 18, 1935, in Mt. Calm, Texas. She was the younger of two children. Vennie Mae received her formal education in the Waco Independent School District and attended A.J. Moore High School where she was recognized for her skills as a seamstress. During her life, Vennie Mae was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She worked in the food services division at James Connally Air Force Base in Waco, and at the food services division in the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. After returning to Waco, she worked for Woods Manufactory and, lastly, for the Illinois Glass Plant where she retired after 18 years of service. Vennie Mae accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and was baptized at an early age at Toliver Chapel Baptist Church where Rev. O. L. Hegmon served as pastor. She remained a member for over 70 years at Toliver Chapel where Dr. Jimmy Hunter, is presently the pastor. On December 31, 1952, she was united in marriage to James Willie Johnson. As the story goes Vennie Mae met James Willie on the back of a truck as they went to pick cotton. She loved family holiday gatherings and cooking for different family events. When James Willie served as pastor at St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church in Robinson, Texas, you could find Vennie Mae serving in the kitchen, decorating the church for special events and singing in the choir. Vennie Mae touched so many lives with her love and kindness and will be deeply missed by her family and those who knew her. Vennie Mae was preceded in death by her husband, James Willie Johnson; one son, Edison R. Johnson; one granddaughter, Lisa Johnson; one brother, Thomas Marshall “Mack” McCrimmon; one sister-in-law, Clara McCrimmon; and both parents, Thomas Marshall “Jack” McCrimmon and Delphia McCrimmon.
