Verba Lee Newland Steele February 5, 1920 February 16, 2008 Verba Lee Newland Steele, 88, of Waco, formerly of Plainview, Texas, passed away Saturday, February 16, 2008. Services will be at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, February 19th, in The Garden Room at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey with Rev. David Shuttlesworth officiating. Committal services will be at 10:00 a.m., on Wednesday, February 20th at Parklawn Memorial Garden in Plainview, Texas, with Travis Hart officiating. Verba Lee was born February 5, 1920 in Killeen, Texas, to Charles and Cora Lee Younger Ellison. She married the late, Leroy C. "Bitsy" Newland on April 4, 1936. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Leroy Newland. She is survived by husband of 7 years, J.R. Steele, of Plainview; daughters, Judy Newland of New York City, NY, and Patti Gooch and husband, Don of Waco; four grandchildren, Donna Powers and husband, Jay, of Waco; David Gooch and wife Kim of Waco; Linda Hewing and husband, Eric, of Dallas, and Steve Gooch of Houston; two great-grandchildren.
