Verna Mae York April 21, 1924 – October 9, 2006 Verna Mae York, passed away Monday, October 9, 2006 at her home after a brief illness. Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:00 am Friday, October 13 at St. Louis Catholic Church with Msgr. Mark Deering as Celebrant. Burial will be at Hillcrest Cemetery in Marlin. Rosary will be recited at 6:00 pm and visitation with the family will follow Thursday, October 12 at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Funeral Home. Verna Mae Paske York was born in Perry, Texas in Falls County on April 21, 1924 to her parents, Katherine and Philip Paske. She was employed by Houston’s Restaurant for many years, the Elite and Moran’s Café. She was a lifelong member of St. Louis Catholic Church. Verna married the love of her life, Thomas Eugene York January 11, 1948. They were happily married for 35 years and she became a homemaker who enjoyed flower gardening, sewing and her pets. She was a cheerful, energetic person who enjoyed people and life to the fullest. Her family, religion and church were a very important part of her life. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Thomas Eugene York; brothers, Joe Afinowicz, Bruno Afinowicz and Anton Paske. Verna is survived by one daughter, Berta Mae York of Waco; sisters, Stella Paske of Marlin, Josephine Paske and husband, Bill of Robinson and Magdalene Long Werline and husband, Billy of Robinson; nephew, Robert Paske and wife, Theresa of Riesel; nieces, Mary Jo Leismann of Austin, JoAnn Otting and husband, Earl of Ocala, Florida and Becky Afinowicz of Colorado and a host of friends.
