Vernie Mae Logan May 6, 1923 February 8, 2012 Baylor University has lost one of its finest. Mrs. Vernie Mae Logan, former professor of Art History at Baylor, died February 8, 2012, in Idaho, her home for the past several years. A graveside service at Oakwood Cemetery in Waco will be held for Professor Logan at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, February 18. She will rest beside her beloved, late husband, Dr. Robert D. Logan, who died in 1980. Vernie was born in Biloxi, Mississippi, on May 6, 1923. Vernie graduated from Bolton High School in Alexandria, LA in 1940. She earned her Master of Arts degree from The University of Southern California Graduate School in 1971. In a "Letter of Introduction" dated October 1, 1990, Baylor University Chancellor and Professor John D. McClanahan wrote in part: "Vernie Logan has recently retired 1989 from her position as Lecturer in art history in the Department of Art at Baylor University. I have known her for more than thirteen years as a dedicated teacher and valued and supportive member of our department. She is a person of culture and high moral character; scrupulously honest, dependable and cooperative. She has traveled extensively in this country and in Europe and has taught and done research both here and abroad." She was preceded in death by her parents, Sallie Vernie Hyde Swetman and Edward Swetman, and by her sister Barbara Jean Mobley Jones. She is survived by a son in Idaho, and by her sister Barbara's family in Allen and Plano, Texas.
