VERONA MARY JOHNSTON Verona Mary Johnston age 82, of Waco died Friday, February 27, 2004 at a local nursing home. Services will be at 11:30 am Tuesday, March 2 at Wilkirson Hatch Bailey Chapel with Rev. Jay Swoveland and Rev. Dan Preston officiating. Burial will follow at Ft. Parker Memorial Cemetery in Groesbeck, Texas. Verona was born in Plainview, Texas on September 5, 1921. She grew up in Groesbeck and attended school there and had been a resident of Waco for the past 20 years. She was a faithful member of Meadowbrook Baptist Church and taught Sunday school class for many years. She loved her family and enjoyed all the family gatherings. She was preceded in death by her husband, Norman Johnson; daughter, Simie Stone; brothers, John L. Stockton, Roscoe Stockton, Truman Stockton, Allan Stockton, Ray Stockton and James A. Stockton. Survivors include daughter, Lesa Jackson and husband Bill of Thornton, son, Roger Berry and wife Cynthia of Mexia; son-in-law, George Stone of Mart; sister, Joy Cates of Groesbeck; brother, Eugene Stockton of Austin; six grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.
