Virginia Elizabeth Land McCarty September 23, 1917 – June 15, 2006 On June 15th, 2006 an earthly angel returned to her home in Heaven. The Lord called Virginia Elizabeth Land McCarty home after a brief illness. Her memorial service will be held at the Bosqueville United Methodist Church located at 7327 Rock Creek Road on Friday, June 23rd at 11:00 AM. Virginia was born the youngest of five children to Henry Frederick Land and Barbara Maria Yates Land on September 23, 1917, in Elmore County, Alabama. Virginia graduated from Elmore County High School in 1936. Shortly after graduation and while visiting her sister in Waco, she met a dashing young Baylor student, James D. McCarty, Jr., during an outing in Cameron Park. They were married at the Hill County Courthouse in Hillsboro, TX on May 29, 1937. Virginia had a long and distinguished career as cafeteria manager for the Waco ISD until her retirement in 1979. Her innate goodness shown through in everything she did and with whomever she interacted. She enjoyed traveling, sewing, cooking, painting and reading, but her greatest pleasure came from doing things for her family. Whatever she did, she did it well with the zest of living life to its fullest. Preceding her in death were her parents, her brothers Bruce, Buck and Curry, her sister Geraldine Wiethop and two of her own children, Jimmie and Donna Marie McCarty. She is survived by her loving husband of 69 years, James D. Jake McCarty, Jr., daughter Cindy Dian Bethany and husband James Bethany of China Spring, son David Allan McCarty of Georgetown, grandson Lonny James Bethany of Spring, and grandson and granddaughter Evan Michael McCarty and Heather Mirita McCarty of Temple, nieces Jane Smith of Sherman and Leah Cash of Kerrville. Everyone who was blessed to know her will sorely miss her generous nature, sunny smile and sweet laugh. After a brief time apart we will be celebrating again with her in the very presence of our Lord. In lieu of flowers, please provide a love offering to Providence Hospice in Virginia’s honor.
