Virginia Evans Bowman

May 24, 1916 — January 31, 2003

VIRGINIA BOWMAN Virginia Evans Bowman, age 86, went home to be with the Lord and her lifetime mate Friday, January 31, 2003. Services will be held at 1:30pm Monday, February 3 at First Baptist Church of Lorena with Pastors Mike Patterson, Danny Niedecken, Ken Young and Associate Pastor Dick Wooten officiating. Burial will follow at Lorena Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be from 3-5pm Sunday, February 2 at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Garden Room, 6101 Bosque Blvd. Virginia was born in Lorena May 24, 1916. She was a housewife and mother, working only a short time at Blanton’s Florist and helping her husband Thomas and son Bruce at the Village Lamp Lighter. Virginia was active in the community and a relative of Lorena Westbrook Robertson, the town’s namesake. She graduated from Lorena High School where she was in the Choral Club and the Tennis Club. She attended Baylor University. She was active in local groups such as the Lorena Women’s Club, Lorena Cemetery Association, 4-F Club and AARP. In July of 1997, Virginia was named “Miss Lorena”, a title she previously held in 1932 during her junior year of high school. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Lorena and was previously a member of Lorena United Methodist Church. She loved to attend functions at both churches. She leaves behind sons, Thomas Mills Bowman Jr. of Houston, Jon Charles Bowman and wife Cindy, also of Fort Worth and Bruce Ryan Bowman and wife Beverly of Lorena; nine grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; a multitude of family and friends; and her fuzzy friend Sophia. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas; brothers, Charles W. Evans Jr., Dr. Titus C. Evans and John G. Evans; and parents, Charles W. and Jennie Edna Whitsitt Evans. Pallbearers will be Brad Bowman, Brad Taylor, Adam Bowman, Marc Bowman and Jon Bowman Jr. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Ross Shipp and Virginia’s painting buddies. Memorials may be made to Lorena Cemetery Association, Providence Hospice, Lorena Volunteer Fire Department or a charity of choice.
