May 26, 1917 — May 27, 2007

Virginia Lois Whiteley Patterson May 26, 1917 – May 27, 2007 Virginia Lois Whiteley Patterson, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, went into the presence of Jesus May 27, 2007. Graveside services will be at 10:00 am Thursday, June 21 at Oakwood Cemetery. Lois Whiteley was born in Blackwell, Texas May 26, 1917 to William and Clara Kennedy Whiteley. She grew up in Merkel, Texas and married her high school sweetheart, Jack Coleman Patterson on October 11, 1940. Lois had a career as wife and mother and excelled at both. She was “Coach Pat’s” biggest support in his years as track coach at University of Houston, Baylor University and University of Texas and as Athletic Director of Baylor. She and Coach Patterson were sponsors of two girls clubs while at Baylor: Delta Alpha Pi and Pi Beta Phi. Lois sewed beautifully, loved to cook, travel, read, play bridge and made wonderful friendships across the bridge table. She had many “mom” jobs through the years as Boy Scout and Camp Fire leader and was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels. Lois was a wonderful listener, a good friend, had a quick sense of humor and lots of “grit” in her tiny 5 ft, 1 in, frame. Lois was a lifelong member of Austin Avenue United Methodist Church and the Friendship Class. She and her family are appreciative to her loving caregivers this last year of her life: her friend, Linda Holmes, Doris Fontenot, Vivian Coles, Martha Beau-Sejour, Vivien Miller and hospice aide Shontae’ Harden. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 56 years, Jack and two older brothers, W.A. and Kennedy. She is survived by her children: Dr. Jack Coleman “Pat” Patterson Jr. of Austin and Pam Patterson Sibley and husband, David of Waco; six grandchildren: Rachel Sibley Reid and husband David, of Keller, David “Adam” Sibley, Jr. and wife, Sheridan of Waco, Jonathan Patterson Sibley and wife, Suzanne of Austin, Jack Coleman “Cole” Patterson, II and wife, Yvawn of Leander, Brett Patterson of Austin and Chris Patterson of Austin; great grandchildren are Cole Reid and Maryn Reid of Keller, Isabella Patterson and Coleton Patterson of Leander. Memorials may be sent to Austin Avenue United Methodist or Baylor University Track and Field Program.
