Virginia Starr

STARR, VIRGINIA Virginia Lee Steitz Starr, age 76, of Waco died peacefully at her home Tuesday, January 29, 2002. Services will be held at 2:30PM Friday, February 1 at First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Jimmie Johnson officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be 5:00-7:00PM Thursday, January 31at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey, 6101 Bosque Blvd. Mrs. Starr was born August 19, 1925 in Los Angeles, California. She graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in mathematics from the University of Southern California in 1947. She attended a fifth year in 1948 to obtain a certificate for teaching math in secondary schools. She met future husband, Ed Starr in Sun Valley, Idaho in 1948, they married in Pasadena, California June 25, 1949. They then moved to Ed’s hometown of Waco and lived there until 1960, when they moved to Pasadena. They moved back to Waco and have been residents since 1968. Her parents preceded her in death, Harold James Steitz in August 1991 and Mary Louise Williams Steitz on January 16, 2002. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, University of Southern California Alumni Association, Alpha Chi Omega Greek Sorority since 1944, past president of Epsilon Chapter of Alpha Chi Omega at the University of Southern California, Phi Beta Kappa and Mortar Board Member, Coordinator of Colonization of a chapter of Alpha Chi Omega at Baylor University in Waco 1985, Past President of Ridgewood Women’s Golf Association at Ridgewood Country Club 1953-1954 and was a former member of Junior League of Waco. Survivors include husband, Ed Starr, sons, Michael James Starr and Mark Edward Starr, grandchildren, James Edward Starr, Crisshan Lee Starr, Elizabeth Jane Starr and William Edward Starr, and great granddaughter, Madison Danielle Starr. Pallbearers will be Jay Naman, Bill Bailey, Billy Davis, Al Bolin, David Smith, and Walter Fadal. Honorary pallbearers are Ted Getterman and Donal Sharp. Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church or charity of choice. WILKIRSON-HATCH-BAILEY
