WALKER, VIVIAN SMITH Vivian Smith Walker, age 92, of Waco died Thursday, July 31, 2003 at a local nursing home. Graveside services will be held at 10am Monday, August 4 at Waco Memorial North with Rev. Jerry Arthur officiating. Arrangements are through Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey, 6101 Bosque Blvd. The family can be contacted at 10018 Townridge Dr., Woodway, 772-4729. Mrs. Walker was born in Hallsburg, Texas, November 16, 1910, moving to Waco as a small child. She attended Waco public schools, graduating Waco High School and the Fowlks-Haun School of Speech. She married John L. Walker September 11, 1930. She is a member of First United Methodist Church and Wesleyan Worker’s Sunday School Class. Until retiring in 1984, Mrs. Walker was active in children’s education, serving for many years as Children’s Division Superintendent of St. John’s United Methodist Church, now Central. Mrs. Walker established her private pre-school and kindergarten, Little Girl and Boy Land, in 1957, where she taught the kindergarten and speech and dramatics classes. Mrs. Walker is listed in Who’s Who of the South and Southwest, having authored several books and many prize-winning poems. She holds membership in The Texas Poetry Society, National Society of Arts and Letters and Community Artists and Student’s Association. She was preceded in death by parents, son, John L. Walker, Jr., sisters, Hortense Wallis and Evelyn Brazer and brother, George P. Smith, Jr. Survivors include husband, John L. Johnny Walker; daughter, Beverly Walker; daughter-in-law, Neva Walker Amyett all of Waco; sons, Alan Dale Walker of Waco and Jeremy Walker and wife, Kay of Arlington; eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Pallbearers will be grandsons, Brian Walker, Stephen Walker, Patrick Walker, David Walker, Jonathan Walker, and William Walker. Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church.
