W. LOU HIGDON Wanda Lou Higdon, 74 of Waco died Thursday, September 23, 2004 at her residence. Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 26 at Mart Cemetery with Chaplain Suzanne Smith officiating. Mrs. Higdon was born February 26, 1930 in Waco, the daughter of Jesse Robert and Gertrue Porterfield Ingram. She graduated from Waco High School and then from North Texas State University in Denton, Texas. She worked as a designer in the advertising department of Neiman-Marcus department store in Dallas during the 1950’s. In the 1960’s she began a teaching career that lasted 34 years. She taught in Snyder, Texas before returning to Waco, where she taught art and English until her retirement. Lou remained active in the community, volunteering with Friends for Life and with the Waco Historical Foundation at the Fort House. She was preceded in death by her parents and her son, Scott Forest Burns. Survivors include her daughter, Susan Higdon of California; sisters, Martha Ingram and Mary Ingram of Waco; brother, Jerry Ingram and wife Marie of Austin. In lieu of flowers, the family requests than memorials be made to the American Lung Association or Providence Hospice.
