Walter Banas January 26, 1920 - November 3, 2015 Walter Banas, Chief Warrant Officer, USAF (Retired) of Waco passed away Tuesday, November 3, 2015. His graveside services will be 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 11, at Oakwood Cemetery with the Deacon Lee Butler officiating. A Masonic burial ceremony will be performed by members of the George M. Denton Masonic Lodge #24, where he was a member for 70 years. Walter was born January 26, 1920, in Norwich, Connecticut, to John and Regina Banas. He met his wife, Juanita, while stationed at Blackland Army Air Field during WWII and they were married at the First Presbyterian Church of Waco in April 1943. Chief Banas entered the Army Air Corps in August 1940, at Randolph Army Air Field, San Antonio and retired at Lowry AFB, Colorado, in October 1970, after 30 years and 3 months of service. Chief Banas was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Juanita Koehne Banas; three brothers and two sisters. He is survived by two sisters, three nieces and his brother-in-law, Clyde Koehne of Waco. The family gives much thanks to the personnel of Wesley Woods Healthcare Center of Hewitt, Texas, for their loving care of Walter. Memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.
