Walter D. Hunter, Jr. July 10, 1922 March 28, 2014 Dr. Walter D. "Tootie" Hunter, Jr., 91, passed away on Friday, March 28, 2014. The funeral service will be 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 1, at St. Paul's Episcopal Church. Visitation will be Monday, March 31, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey. He was born in Waco on July 10, 1922, to Jennie B. and Walter Hunter. Tootie attended Waco schools and graduated from Waco High School in 1938, Baylor University in 1943, and Baylor College of Dentistry in Dallas in 1946. In March of 1946, Tootie married Margaret Dahse and they lived in Waco where he practiced dentistry for 39 years. He enjoyed coaching Little League baseball, hunting with bird dogs and fishing. After retiring, ranching became his pastime. He was a charter member of Ridgewood Country Club where he played golf and was a club champion. He was King of the Waco Cotton Palace pageant in 1997. On March 18 of this year Tootie and Margaret celebrated 68 years of marriage. Tootie loved his family, his friends and his "Old Fashions". Tootie was preceded in death by his parents; and one grandson, David Wells. He is survived by his wife, Margaret; daughters, Carol and her husband, Bob Wells, of Pearland and Lynn and her husband, Gary Carter, of Waco; five grandchildren, Kelly and Callan Nokes of Austin, Kacie and John Angell of Dallas, Steve and Missy Wells of Houston, Melissa Wells of Wolfforth, and Matt and Jenn Wells of Rock Hill, SC; eight great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Honorary pallbearers are Jim Morrison, Steve Beard, Harold Mathias, Paul Erickson, Bill Lewie, Kyle Nielsen, Goodhue Smith, Thomas Stribbling and Frank Eastman. The family expresses special thanks to Lou Ella Carter, the Visiting Angels, and Bluebonnet Hospice for their care. Memorial gifts are to be made to the charity of your choice.
