Walter K. Moss October 6, 1927 - November 23, 2013 Walter K. Moss of McGregor passed away Saturday, November 23, 2013, at his residence. Services will be 2:30 p.m., Friday, November 29, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Chapel. Burial will follow at Whitehall Cemetery in Woodway. Visitations will be 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, November 27, and 1:30-2:30 p.m., Friday, November 29, prior to the chapel service. Walter was born October 6, 1927, in Live Oak County, Texas, to Jackson and Winnie Moss. He joined the Navy in 1946, serving in San Diego, California for two years. After returning to Texas, Walter married Lubie Ayers on November 17, 1951, in Carrizo Springs, Texas. He attended Texas A&I University and graduated with a degree in agriculture in 1952. Following graduation, Walter was employed by Asgro Seed Company in San Antonio. Walter and Lubie lived there for 14 years where three of their four children were born. Walter began working for Conlee Seed Company in 1964 and in 1966 the couple moved to Waco where their fourth child was born in 1967. They raised their children in Woodway and lived there for 35 years. Walter retired as President of Conlee Seed in 1992. In 1993, Walter established Walter Moss Seed Company, LLC and remained active in the business until his death. . Walter served as President of the Texas Seed Trade Association in 1985. In 1988 he received the American Society of Agricultural Consultants service award as President, and was awarded the Texas Forage and Grassland Council Industry Award in 1990. He also served as President of the Texas Forage and Grassland Council in 1994, and was President of the Blackland Income Growth Program from 2003-2005. Walter and Lubie moved to the country near McGregor in 1998 where he enjoyed rural life as a farmer and rancher. Walter was a member of First Baptist Church of Woodway and was a Mason and a Shriner. Walter was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Hazel Lindsey and Zillah Herrington; and brothers, Jack Moss and Bob Moss. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Lubie Ayers Moss; daughters, Julie Moss of McGregor and Kelly Moss Price and husband, Kyle, of McGregor; sons, Tracy Moss of McGregor and Dr. Brad Moss and wife, Polly, of Keller, Texas; grandchildren, Jacob, Maggie, and Elly Moss, Katy and Jack Price, and Tanner Moss; sisters, Winnie Riser of Boerne, Texas, and Barbara Schulze of San Antonio; and numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers are Tracy Moss, Dr. Brad Moss, Kyle Price, Mike Cleveland, Rafe Piper, Jacob Moss, Tanner Moss, and Jack Price. Honorary Pallbearers are Jack Resch, Dr. Fred Miller, Bud Howell and Steve Ostrom. Walter loved his family and friends dearly and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. The family wishes to thank the 8th floor staff of Scott and White Hospital, the Scott and White Oncology Department, and Scott and White Hospice for their wonderful and loving care of their Dad in recent months.
