Walter M. Reaves, Sr.

REAVES, SR., WALTER M. Walter M. Reaves, Sr., age 90, of Waco died Wednesday, March 19, 2003 at a local hospital. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10am Friday, March 21 at St. Louis Catholic Church with Rev. David Leibham officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery with full military honors. Rosary will be recited at 6pm Thursday, March 20 at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Chapel, 6101 Bosque Blvd. Mr. Reaves was born January 6, 1913 in Buckholts and was reared and educated in Bell County. He was a 1931 graduate of Academy High School. He married Julia Anna Judy Lanzo in 1949 in Austin. They moved to Waco in 1985 to join the rest of his family in McLennan County. He was a veteran of W.W.II U. S. Army. His World War II service included over three years of overseas duty in the Southwest Pacific Theater of Operations. He joined the 36th Division of the Texas National Guard when it was reactivated in 1946 and transferred to the retired reserve in 1965. He was a chief warrant officer. Mr. Reaves was a Retired State Department of Highways Administrator of Technical Programs. He worked for the department in Austin for over 41 years retiring in 1978. He was a member of St. Louis Catholic Church, Sons of the Republic of Texas and a life member of the Providence Hospital Auxiliary. He also worked as a volunteer in The Voluntary Income Tax Assistance and Medicare/Medicaid Assistance Program. Survivors include wife, Judy Reaves of Waco; son, Walter M. Reaves, Jr. and wife, Dee Anne; grandchildren, Mika Michelle Reaves and Matthew Michael Reaves all of West; and sister, Mary Alice O’Dowd of Waco. Pallbearers will be military personnel.
