Walter Ray Trim

November 13, 1931 — August 16, 2015

Walter Ray Trim Nov. 13, 1931 - Aug. 16, 2015 Walter Ray Trim, 83, a man of great heart and good humor, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, August 16, 2015. Loved ones will celebrate his life at 10 a.m., Thursday, August 20, at Western Heights Baptist Church with Rev. Kip Osborne officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Park. Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 19, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Garden Room. Walter was born November 13, 1931, in Crystal City, Texas, to Walter F. and Jessie Bert Trim. Along with his younger brother, Jerry, he grew up in nearby Carrizo Springs, moving to Waco as a teenager. He graduated from Waco High School in 1949 and was a member of the 1948 State Champion Waco Tigers football team. There he was affectionately known as "Stomper" because, in his enthusiasm, he would stomp the feet of the opposing players. He attended Baylor University where he met the lovely Mary Elizabeth Rowland and married her on August 30, 1952. After graduating Baylor with a business degree, Second Lieutenant Trim went directly into the Air Force where he served his country during the Korean War. After brief stays in Cheyenne, WY, Wichita Falls, Hobbs, N M and Odessa, the family settled in Big Spring. Walter worked in the oil business, eventually as office manager for Sid Richardson Carbon Co. He continued in the Air Force Reserve, rising to the rank of Major and commanding a Civil Air Patrol unit at Webb Air Force Base. Later, Walter worked for Union Pacific Railroad in Big Spring, Dallas, and St. Louis, retiring in 1992, and settling in his boyhood Waco home. Always active in his church, Walter made his profession of faith as a young child. He loved people. He was up for a picnic, game or get-together of any kind as long as his family and many friends were there. He had a passion for all sports, but mainly football. He could follow multiple games at once and know the score of each at any given moment. He enjoyed dominoes for a lifetime, especially in his last years. Walter was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Mary, of Hillsboro; his daughter, Susan Trim Allen, of Fort Worth; son, David Trim and wife, Christine, of Los Angeles; two grandsons, West Allen of Grapevine and Reeve Allen of Fort Worth; brother, Jerry Trim and wife, Laura of Albuquerque; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and devoted friends. He will be greatly missed. The family invites you to leave a message or memory in our "Memorial Guestbook" at www.WHBfamily.com.
