Walter Raymond Moody September 16, 1923 - August 8, 2010 Walter Raymond Moody of Lorena passed away Sunday, August 8, 2010. Services will be at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, August 12, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Chapel with the Father Theodore Ted Tsitsilianos officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 6 p.m., with the Trisagion service at 7 p.m., Wednesday, August 11, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Chapel. Walter was born September 16, 1923, in Wichita Falls, Texas, to E. O. and Lulu Moody. He served in the U.S. Navy, beginning on Dec. 8, 1941. He was at Saipan and most of the other Pacific battle areas that brought the Pacific War to a close. He graduated Magna Cum Laude in Zoology from the University of Arkansas in 1952 and obtained terminal degrees from U. of N. Carolina. He worked in public health for various municipalities and for the U.S. Government at the nuclear test site near Nellis A.F.B. Nevada, where he retired. Walter was a member of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in Waco. He was preceded in death by his parents; as well as his step-mother, Icey Marie Moody; his sister, Mary Lou Branum; brothers, Everett Moody, Jr. and Freddie Mac Moody. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Theona Moody; children, Steven Leigh Moody and wife, Velinda, of Lorena, TX; Melissa Evelyn Becca Parsons and husband, Michael, of San Pedro, CA; Walter Raymond Moody, Jr. and wife, Valerie, of Evans, CO; Theodore John Moody of Las Vegas, NV; and Athena Georgia Morgan of Las Vegas, NV; 13 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren; and his sister, Frances Ann Magness. He loves and is loved by them all. He marched to his own drummer and always spoke the truth as he perceived it. May his memory be eternal. Pallbearers are Steve L. Moody, Sr., Ray Moody, Ted Moody, Michael Moody, Steve L. Moody, Jr., Ben Moody, Gary Moody and Jacob Stroub. The family wishes to relay his appreciation to the staff of Providence Health Center and St. Catherine Center. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Nicholas Orthodox Church Building Fund.
