Walter Sawyers

WALTER SAWYERS, ENC USN RET. Walter Sawyers, ENC USN Ret., age 73 died Tuesday, March 30, 2004 at a local hospital. Services will held at 1:30pm Saturday, April 3 at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Chapel with Buddy Sipe officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be from 6-8pm Friday, April 2 at the funeral home. Mr. Sawyers was born in Ben Hur, Texas December 19, 1930 and grew up in the Waco area. He joined the Navy at age 17 in 1948. He retired as a veteran service officer with TVC after 21 years. He was a life member and past post commander of VFW Post 8564. He was a life member of Amvets Post 35 and a member of American Legion Post 440. He was a member of Fleet Reserve Branch 29. Survivors include wife, Carolyn Sawyers; daughter, Elaine Sawyers; sons, Keith Sawyers and Kyle Sawyers; grandchildren, Michael, Michelle, and Ellen Wier; and sister, Mary Francis Krueger.
