Wesley Hampton Dawson passed away on July 4, 2021, in Valley Mills, Texas at the age of 61. While his death was unexpected, he was surrounded by his loving family. Services to celebrate Wesley’s life will be held on Friday, July 9, at 11:00 a.m. at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Funeral Home, officiated by Pastor Stuart Huey. Burial will follow at Waco Memorial Park. Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 8, from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Wesley was born on May 24, 1960, in Waco, to Shirley Battle Dawson and John Eugene Dawson. He attended school at Midway ISD and graduated in 1978. He was an amazing athlete and participated in football and track, and was a lifelong Midway Panther who organized many class reunions. He was baptized at First Baptist Church of Woodway, and lived in Woodway and McGregor throughout his life. Wesley loved the outdoors and fishing, but especially cherished spending time with his family and friends. He enjoyed music, playing Forty-Two, cooking ribs and other family favorites, and shared his wonderful sense of humor with everyone around him. Wesley attended Tarleton State University in Stephenville, and graduated with a business degree. Wesley was proud to be a service writer at Waco’s Bird-Kultgen Ford for 34 years and treasured the many friendships he had with his coworkers and customers. Wesley is survived by his wife of 16 years, Christy Bryant Dawson, and his children, Courtney Wood and husband Jack, John Wesley Dawson, Alissa Cady, Eric Nye and wife Devon, Michael Rowell and wife Jessie, and Kim Scoggins and husband Jody. Wesley was a proud granddaddy to Cooper, Vivian, Christian, Knox, Kennedy, Jace, Josslyn, Jax, Keegan, Reese, Everly, Sutton, Emma, Ella, and Jodie Blair. He is also survived by his sisters, Peggy Mainord and husband Steve, Linda Reneau and husband Terry, Susan Fuller and husband Clint, and many other family members. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Shirley Dawson. Pallbearers include John Wesley Dawson, Bobby Dyess, Eric Nye, Jack Wood, Michael Rowell, and Barry Beverly. Honorary pallbearers are Clint Fuller, Terry Reneau, Steve Mainord, Joe Don Scoggins, Shawn Mason, and Rusty Bryant. The family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to the Bird Kultgen family for their support and encouragement.
