William A. Johnson June 28, 1928 May 17, 2014 William Arthur "Bill" Johnson passed away at his home peacefully while sleeping on May 17, 2014. . Memorial services will be held May 20, at 1 pm at St Matthew Lutheran Church in Waco, followed by private interment at a family cemetery. Visitation is scheduled from 5-7 pm May 19 at Wilkirson- Hatch- Bailey Funeral Home. Bill was born on June 28, 1929, in Brownwood, TX to Helen and Arthur Johnson. He graduated from Cisco High School in 1946, and attended Howard Payne University, graduating in 1951. In 1950, he was married to Barbara Caffey, his wife of 64 years. After college graduation, he worked as a surveyor in the oil fields but was called into service during the Korean War, enlisting in the US Army. He then studied Mechanical Engineering at New Mexico A&M, and registered as a Professional Engineer in 1961. He practiced engineering throughout Texas up until his passing, founding the firm bearing his name in Waco in 1962. Bill was devoted to the field of engineering, and was active in the Texas Society of Professional Engineers and ASHRAE as a 50 year member. He was selected by TSPE as Engineer of the Year in 1978. He worked on a diverse range of projects, with notable clients including Plantation Foods Cargill, MCC, City of Waco, Ridgewood Country Club, SW Bell and many more. Bill loved the outdoors, becoming an Eagle Scout in 1944. He was an avid hunter, regularly spending time at his ranch in Hamilton County. He was also passionate about tennis, playing in high school and for many years. He was a devoted member of the Lutheran Church for over 50 years, most recently at St Matthew Lutheran Church. Pall bearers for the service will be Leslie Parnell, Bryan Bagley, Kenneth Haedge, KeithTaylor, Kolby Taylor, and Stevie Taylor. Honorary pallbearers include the Central Texas chapter of TSPE, Dick Taylor, George Walker, Gary Barbin, Lawrence Bagley, Austin Bagley and Owen Carlson. Many more honorary pall bearers to list, please carry him in your heart. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, and sisters Martha Roark and Norma Lockhart. The is survived by his wife Barbara, daughter Laurie Parnell and son-in-law Leslie Parnell, granddaughter Lydia Parnell, sister Bess Moore and brother-in -law Joe Lockhart.
