William D. Stanford

William D. Stanford passed away Friday, January 6, 2023. Graveside services will be 11:00 am, Tuesday, January 10, 2023, at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be 4:00 to 6:00 pm, Sunday, January 8, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Funeral Home.

William was born January 3, 1949, in Thomasville, Georgia. William served this great country as a Navy Seal in The Vietnam War and then retired Army after twenty-eight years. He was Military Police and extremely proud of the work he did in that position. Upon retiring he worked as a mail carrier servicing the Hewitt area for many years. While there, at Christmas he made sure that every child that wrote a letter to Santa received one in return. He spent hours personalizing each letter.

He enjoyed traveling, oldies music, and spending time with those he loved the most. He also enjoyed making his sloppy joes, which is a family favorite.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife, Wanda; and son, Tony.

He is survived by his daughter, Dr. Tammy Towner and husband Roger; Kim Castilleja and husband Mario; grandchildren: Donald Eskew Jr. and Stacy, Jeffrey Eskew, Brittney Eskew, Tiffany Flores and husband Justin, Christopher Towner and wife Taylor, Destiney Castilleja, Marissa Castilleja, Bryanna Castilleja, Alexis Castilleja; and great-grandchildren: Parker, Gunner, Paisley, Cannon, Allison and Nevaeh.
