William David Hogan February 3, 1945 – December 16, 2005 David Hogan passed away December 16, 2005 at his home in Waco after a brief battle with lung cancer. The service will be at 1:30 pm Tuesday, December 20, followed by a period of visitation at Wilkirson Hatch Bailey Bosque Chapel. W.D. was born February 3, 1945 to William Hugh and Opal Marie Baucom Hogan in Gainesville, TX. He attended school in Gainesville and graduated from Valley View High School. He was valedictorian of his 1963 high school class. David was active in many school activities including F.F.A., annual staff and especially enjoyed sports. He played starring positions on the Valley View Eagles Basketball and Football teams in 1961 and 1962. He briefly attended Texas A & M after high school graduation and during that time in College Station developed a life long passion for that University. He then enlisted in the United States Army in 1963 and served a tour of duty in Germany. After returning from the Army he resumed his college studies at Cooke County Community College and received an associate degree. He then went to North Texas State University and graduated in 1971 with a Bachelor of Business Administration. While earning his degrees he worked full time for the U. S. Postal Service. On August 30, 1969 he married Rita Lou Balentine. To this marriage was born Amy Michelle and Matthew David Hogan. In 1971 he accepted a job with the Veterans Administration Regional Office in Waco. He remained with the VA until his retirement in 1995. During his career he served in Adjudication and at his retirement was a Hearing Officer. David was a loving and devoted husband, father and “BaPaw”. He was involved in PTA, Cub Scout Leader, a Little League Coach and a belonged to the Gallon Club of the American Red Cross. He was a Baptist, an avid golfer and loved participating in and watching his grandchildren play sports. He is survived by his devoted and loving wife, Rita; daughter, Amy Alexander and husband, John; son, Matt Hogan and wife Melissa; grandchildren: Cody and McKenna Alexander and Kennedy and Evan Hogan; sisters: Wanda Paschal and husband, Pete; Dorotha Edwards; Glenda Pryor and husband Charles; and Beverly Hogan; brother, James Hogan and wife, Carla; sisters-in-law, LaJuana Hogan and Francis Hogan; father-in-law, John Balentine and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Sharon Smith; brothers, Wayne, Weldon and Raymond Hogan and mother-in-law, Jeanette Balentine.
