William Donovan “Bill” Perkins September 6, 1928 – September 13, 2007 William Donovan Perkins passed away September 13th in McGregor after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, September 17 at First United Methodist Church of Waco, with the Rev. Stephen Ramsdell and Rev. Cecil Nelson officiating. Burial will follow at Bell Springs Cemetery, between Abbott and Bynum, TX. Visitation will be from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Sunday, September 16 at Wilkirson Hatch Bailey. He was born September 6, 1928 to David and Olga Zell Huey Perkins in Thomasville, Alabama. Bill moved to Texas as a teenager. He graduated from Bangs High School and later attended McLennan Community College. He moved to Dallas and worked in the grocery business before joining the Ben E. Keith Co. of Fort Worth. His work took him to Longview, and then later to Waco. He was a Merchandising Manager for Ben E. Keith Co. where his primary job was to serve as produce supervisor for area Piggly Wiggly stores. He retired in 1987. Bill and Barbara, his wife of 34 years, moved to McGregor in 1988 from Waco. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Waco and a member of the Prayer and Praise Sunday School Class. Bill was most proud of his family, and his greatest happiness was doing things together. He enjoyed water skiing, travel, collecting antiques, and especially working and promoting the produce business. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Mary Crawford; brother, David Perkins; and stepmother, Lillian Greenwell. Bill is survived by his wife, Barbara; his daughter, Kemberly Barrett and husband, Roy of Woodway; his sons, William Perkins and wife, Norma of Waco; Wesley Perkins and wife, Meredith of Houston; and Danny Perkins and wife, Marilyn of Fort Worth; his sister, Betty Joyce Pratt and husband, Jeff of Orlando, FL; eleven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Also surviving are three stepdaughters; Tami Hicks of McGregor, Debbi Unger of Waco, and Pamela Jones and husband, Tom of OK; ten step-grandchildren and four step-great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Wesley Perkins, William Perkins, Danny Perkins, Scott Perkins, Donovan Perkins and Roy Barrett. The family extends appreciation for the loving care of Dr. Randy Gardell, Dr. Crawford Allison, Dalton Jaynes, and employees and staff of Westview Manor and Providence Hospice. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Meals on Wheels at First United Methodist Church of Waco.
